Hydroponic Systems, a Spanish company specialising in hydroponic solutions for protected agriculture, has been awarded the DHL Atlas Award for Sustainable Export 2025, one of the most prestigious awards for responsible foreign trade.
The ceremony was held at the Royal Tapestry Factory in Madrid, where Antonio García and Verónica Gil, members of the sales team, collected the award on behalf of the company.
Sustainable innovation from Spain to the world

Hydroponic Systems designs, manufactures and exports soilless growing systems that enable higher quality food production with up to 80-90% less water consumption than traditional agriculture.
Its catalogue—based on metal gutters and the patented Spacer, which raises the substrate bags to prevent contact with accumulated drainage—has revolutionised the cultivation of fruit and vegetables in greenhouses and agricultural tunnels in more than 40 countries.
The company’s innovation not only reduces environmental impact, but also increases farmers’ profitability. By keeping roots healthy and preventing disease, Hydroponic Systems’ systems drastically reduce the use of pesticides and fertilisers, as well as extending the useful life of the facilities. This translates into lower maintenance costs, higher production per square metre and a faster return on investment.
Exporting sustainability, generating competitiveness
The company began its international activity in 2014 and today exports a high percentage of its turnover. Its expansion reaches from Europe to Asia, Africa and Oceania.
This internationalisation model is based on a clear vision: to transform intensive agriculture into a sustainable, profitable and replicable model, capable of adapting to the most demanding environmental legislation and the most adverse water conditions.
Water conservation, a key global economic issue

In regions where water has become the main limiting factor, Hydroponic Systems offer a practical and measurable solution. While growing tomatoes in soil can require around 60 litres of water per kilo produced, the company’s hydroponic systems reduce this consumption to between 4 and 22 litres, depending on the technological level of the greenhouse.
This saving is not only essential for environmental sustainability, but also represents a direct competitive advantage: less water means lower costs per kilo produced and more predictable agriculture in the face of droughts or water restrictions.
A successful model based on R&D and collaboration
With a compact team, Hydroponic Systems has managed to position itself among the world leaders in protected agriculture thanks to its constant commitment to innovation and digitalisation.
Its presence at international trade fairs and its digital growth —with an increase in web traffic of more than 250% since 2021— reflect a strategic approach that combines engineering, sustainability and effective communication.
A vision for a sustainable and profitable future
Looking ahead, the company continues to expand its line of solutions with drainage disinfection systems using pure hypochlorous acid (PHA), reusable pots that reduce more than 1.5 tonnes of plastic per hectare and cycle, and colour traps for biological pest control.
All of this is part of an agricultural model based on the circular economy, resource optimisation, and technical support for producers seeking to reduce costs without compromising yield.
‘This award recognises that sustainability is not incompatible with profitability. Every litre of water saved and every healthy plant also represents economic benefits for farmers,’ said Antonio García and Verónica Gil when accepting the award.
