The dream of this Northern European farming family was to produce strawberries throughout the year. Devoted to the field for much of their lives and that of their ancestors, they sought to take a step further by installing hydroponic greenhouses to cultivate this precious fruit, highly demanded worldwide.

Guided by Hydroponic Systems, they decided to install the Evolution hanging system from the structure of their new greenhouse, consisting of a Spacer and a metal gutter. This state-of-the-art system allows greater control over the strawberry plant throughout the growth process, promoting a higher final total production.

In addition to control and thus avoiding any plant diseases, the Evolution system they installed also promoted root aeration and oxygenation. The roots, sealed in their bag, had no contact with any surface other than the material they needed to grow and produce more.

After their initial experiences in strawberry production, they achieved a significant milestone in 2023. Few experienced farmers worldwide can reach such high figures. During the spring and summer in this Northern European country where our client resides, he reached the impressive figure of 1.5 kg per plant of the perennial Malling Ace variety.

It is important to note that this is achieved thanks to a density of 8 rows per 9.60 meter bay, allowing each plant to develop its maximum potential.

This data, cultivating in our Evolution system with a metal gutter hanging from the greenhouse, is a significant demonstration that hydroponic production is a highly profitable agricultural practice even in cold Northern European countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or the United Kingdom.

This confirmation adds to others previously obtained by Hydroponic Systems. In 2022, Mexican farmers discovered that the Evolution metal gutter system produced 5% more than any other metal gutter system on the market in tomato crops. Internal investigations with other customers certify that in the case of strawberry production it is an even higher percentage. And, of course, a much higher percentage compared to other types of hydroponic systems without a metal gutter and without Spacer.

In 2023, a Japanese farmer, a Hydroponic Systems customer with a vertical lifting system in his greenhouse, achieved 12.5kg per square meter, a considerable increase in his own production compared to the previous year. Another striking case is that of a British grower who was producing 0.61 kilos of strawberry per plant with a system from another company, with a configuration of 18 mobile lines per canopy. He decided to change supplier and talked to us. We recommended changing the density to 12 mobile lines per 9.6m bay with gutter and spacer systems, and his next production was 1.4kg per plant. This is an increase of more than 133%.

Furthermore, in these cases the consumption of water and fertilizers is reduced by a significant amount after the elimination of crop lines, the amount of substrate and plant is reduced, and thus it becomes a much more efficient and saving operation.
